Small screen stars shine at NTAs

While the stars of the big screen were at the premiere of Bond the stars of the small screen were out in force at the National Television Awards.

Top Gear was named Most Popular Factual Programme, and the Paul O'Grady Show took the Entertainment Programme category.

EastEnders was named Most Popular Serial Drama for the fourth consecutive year, while Ant and Dec were awarded the gong for Entertainment Presenter.

The pair have now picked up that title for at least seven years.

Elsewhere, Rita Simons won the Popular Newcomer title for her role as Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders, and Matt Littler took Outstanding Serial Drama Performance for his role as Matt Cunningham in Hollyoaks.

The Brand-Ross controversy sparked condemnation on the red carpet, with Louis Walsh saying of Brand: "He had it coming. It was rude, crude and he'd been getting away with it for too long. I'm glad he was caught out in the end."

He added: "Jonathan will keep his job and the BBC needs him. He'll stay and carry on being pompous."

O'Grady also weighed in, joking: "Jonathan Ross can stick this award where the sun don't shine."
